The Charnley Cottage, severely during Hurricane Katrina in 2005, may be restored thanks to a deal between the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources and Jackson County.
“They would completely refurbish the home along with the Mississippi Department of Archives and History then give control of it to the county,” he said. “We would take care of the day-to-day maintenance, but they would maintain responsibility for insurance and big-ticket maintenance items.”
The Charnley Cottage faired better than Louis Sullivan’s nearby summer home , which was wall but destroyed. The Charnley residence had been stabilized , but there has been little news of progress on restoration until now.
